Same issue here,

Win 7 Prof 32 bit,
4 GB RAM,
member of work domain

and mine doesn't even generate the error log. It simply says "SharePoint Manager 2010 has stopped working" and quits.

Not sure if you've got the same problem but I realised I was being a muppet and living in SP Designer land...
It worked like a charm when I actually ran it on the server instead of my machine.

update: that was Win7 installation, and after 1st fail OS automatically update some "compatibility settings" and it becomes working. however it cannot see my farm anyway :)

SharePoint Manager is only designed to work on a machine with SharePoint installed directly on it.
Is will work on a Windows 7 machine with SharePoint installed.

You might also want to update the Documentation page(s), as there currently are none. I found a Readme.txt in the extracted folders but it was for the 2007 version.

I've seem to found the solution to this :
  • Run this executable on the Machine Sharepoint is installed on.
  • Run as an administrator (be sure you are an administrator)
  • You must have access to the Sharepoint_AdminContent_<GUID> database as well as the Sharepoint_Config database ( on SQL-level )
  • Just to make sure, grant yourself access to the WSS_Content database
  • Make sure you are a farm administrator (via the central admin)
Please correct me if I'm overdoing it, I'm currently working on a dev machine running Sharepoint, I needed all these configurations in order to make it work.

Didn't realize I was trying to run it from the wrong server.
However, when I did run it from the correct server, the SharePoint Manager v2 (Alpha 20110711) build would not launch, but the previous stable build of v1 did work.
Better error handling when the app launches would be nice to report what was preventing the app from running.

I've done all of this, but it still won't install for me, and it gives no error message.

Same here: no error just says "Stopped working".

Installed on Windows Server 2008 R2, 64-bit.
Sharepoint 2010 installed.
