SharePoint Manager 2007 will be updated to SharePoint Manager 2010 and will support SharePoint 2010.
The first release of SPM2010 will be release after the first public version of SP2010.

Sharepoint Manger 2007 is crashing on me in both Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2. Any ideas? In Windows 2008 I get an object reference error as soon as I run it. I have moss 2007 installed on both.

This works for me also.  Thanks very much :-)

I have the same problem when I run SharePoint Manager 2010.exe:

Problem signature:

Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

If I try to run as administrator, I get a popup that says only "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."  So that doesn't work either.

I'm running SharePoint 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2.  Any ideas?  Thanks in advance.

I am seeing the Object reference fault.

DB Server is SQL Server 2008 SP2 Cluster and WFE is Windows 2008R2 Enterprise + MOSS 2007 SP2

Each time I run the SharePoint Manager 2007 as Farm Administrator Account I recieve the error: "object reference not set to an instance of an object"  and in the event log a message about SQL Exception 5586 is set and it is the same in the ULS:

Unknown SQL Exception -1 occured. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

Kind of weird because everything is working with sharepoint. So I am not sure what the connection failure is all about. Oh and I could run this on the WFE  in the same farm that was on Windows 2003.... Unfortunately I just decommissioned the 2003 server having moved the farm to the new 2008 R2 WFE hardware.

Happy to provide further information if needed.

Worked it out. It seems that the SQL Cluster had gone into a weird failure mode where new SQL connections could not be created but existing SQL connections kept operating fine.   Spooky stuff.  Here are some links that seemed to describe the fault:

Hi friends,
Make sure that
  1. you ran as administrator
  2. Central administration is running properly (only to make sure that every thing is fine).
  3. Make sure that you ran as an account with enough permissions on server.
otherwise, open event viewer for more details

And it will work on windows 8 for me.
